What you get

Solar makes most sense on a business roof

Most of a house’s solar gets exported because everyone is out. A farm shop outside Wetherby, a workshop in Elland or a warehouse at Thorpe Park does the opposite and draws power while the roof makes it. So commercial arrays tend to pay back in around 5 years, against ten for a home.

Our job is the enquiry, a first look at your roof and bill, and booking the site survey. The MCS-certified installation team has over 10 years and hundreds of installs behind them. Your half-hourly data sets the size, and they deal with Northern Powergrid and do the install.

What every commercial job covers

Free site survey
The roof, the structure, the distribution board and any half-hourly data you have, all worked around your day.
Sized from your bill
The array is matched to a sensible slice of your daytime demand. Filling a roof because it fits is how firms overspend.
MCS-certified installation
The MCS-certified installation team fits and commissions it and deals with the Northern Powergrid application.
Monitoring
A dashboard showing generation and consumption, so the person who approved the spend can check the saving month by month.
Work around your hours
Roof work fits around your operation, and most jobs involve no downtime at all.
Documents for your files
MCS certificate, commissioning records and the figures your accountant wants for capital allowances.
Why the sums favour a business

Your working day and the solar day overlap

80%

of the output gets used on site

Daytime trading lines up with generation, so little goes out to the grid.

46 kW

for a unit with a £1,500 monthly bill

Around 39,100 kWh a year, enough for about half the building’s demand.

~5 yrs

typical payback

Panels last around 25 years, which leaves a long run of electricity that costs you nothing.

Indicative, as of 6 November 2026. The sums use 850 kWh per kW a year, a 28p business unit rate, 80% of output used by day and 8p for exports. Your written quote replaces every figure here once the site survey is done.

What would it save you?

Three taps, nothing to fill in. Set up for Leeds and West Yorkshire roofs and today’s price cap.

Who is it for?

£1,500
£500£5,000+

Businesses use electricity in daylight, while the panels generate. More of the solar cuts the bill directly, which is why payback is short.

We make the call. The installers climb the roof.

We take the enquiry, check it stacks up and book the survey. The MCS-certified installation team does the survey, the quote and the fitting. Nothing to pay until you accept a fixed quote.

What West Yorkshire businesses ask about solar

Not on the list? Ring the number at the top and a person will answer it.

What do commercial solar panels cost?
Commercial systems are priced per kW installed, and that rate falls as the system gets bigger, so a unit roof works out cheaper per panel than a house. Put your monthly bill into the calculator on this page and it sizes a system and shows the likely saving, using the assumptions in its note. Your quote after the site survey then replaces all of those numbers.
Why does a business pay back so much faster than a house?
A business runs in the daytime, which is when panels work. Expect 80% of the output to cut your bill directly, with the rest earning 8p. Big roofs also bring the cost per kW down. Picture a unit with a £1,500 monthly bill, using roughly 64,286 kWh a year. A 46 kW array meets about half of that, knocks around £9,384 a year off the bill and has paid for itself after about 5.1 years. A house needs ten or more.
Will our roof take the weight?
Most steel-framed units and modern flat roofs can carry an array, but that gets checked every time. The site survey includes a structural look at the roof, and if the numbers are tight a structural engineer signs it off before anything is ordered. Asbestos cement roofs, which you still find on older units in Bradford and Huddersfield, usually have to be replaced before panels go on, and the survey will say so.
How does the grid connection work?
Anything above 3.68 kW per phase needs a G99 application to Northern Powergrid, the network operator for all of West Yorkshire, before it can connect. The installer puts that in as part of the job. Northern Powergrid can take up to 45 working days to reply. Most replies come sooner, and the install gets scheduled around the answer.
Can a business get a grant or tax relief?
England has no cash grant for commercial solar. The help comes through tax. The Annual Investment Allowance gives 100% relief on qualifying plant up to £1 million a year, and companies can use the 50% first-year allowance on special-rate assets, which is where solar panels sit. Your accountant confirms how it applies to you, and the installer supplies the paperwork they ask for.
Can a battery or van chargers go in as well?
Yes, and they are best planned at the survey instead of bolted on later. A commercial battery shifts cheap or solar electricity into your expensive hours. The Workplace Charging Scheme may cover 75% of workplace EV chargers, capped at £500 a socket, and we confirm whether it can be claimed for you before you agree to anything. Either way, the vans get to charge off daytime generation.
